BARRINGTON — Joel Sherburne is known by all as Mr. Barrington and recently he expanded his horizons.

Joel began working at Calef’s Country Store in 1957 while in high school. For the past 60 years, his life has revolved around the venerable Barrington establishment and his beloved community to the exclusion of most other things, commercial air travel being one.

On Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, Joel, along with Calef’s owners Greg Bolton and Len Angelo settled onto a Delta Airlines flight to New York’s Laguardia Airport. “It was my first commercial flight,” said Sherburne. “I have flown in small planes at Skyhaven in Rochester as well as a refueling flight by the Air Force, even opening the Rochester Fair one year landing in a helicopter.”
